Rank and Order Templates
You can rank and order your templates in the grid according to your project needs. As with other grids in the system, you can do this through drag-and-drop. You can also accomplish this by using the Move to Project drop-down menu.
Who Ranks and Orders Templates
Product Owners prioritize templates based on usage frequency, positioning commonly used story and defect templates at the top of the list for quick access during backlog refinement.
Team Members organize templates to reflect team workflows, grouping related templates together and ranking them by how often they're used in sprint planning.
Administrators establish standard template ordering across projects, ensuring consistent template organization that supports enterprise-wide work patterns.
Permission Requirement
To rank and order templates: Members need Edit access to the project.
To view template order: Members need Read access to see the prioritized list of templates in their current rank order.
Steps
- Click the hamburger menu
> Product > Templates.
- Select the template you want to rank by clicking its checkbox, open the Move to Project drop-down menu. You can select multiple templates if you want to reorder a range of templates on your grid.
- Select Rank from the drop-down and choose a ranking option (choices are: move selected templates to top or bottom of the selected project, move to top or bottom of the list, or move to a specific page).
- The system refreshes to display the Templates grid with your newly-ordered templates.
Troubleshooting
Why can't I drag and drop templates?
Drag-and-drop ranking requires Edit access to the project. If you cannot move templates by dragging, verify your permissions with your project administrator. Also ensure you're viewing templates in their default rank order rather than sorted by a column.
Can I rank templates across multiple projects at once?
No. Template ranking is project-specific. However, you can select multiple templates within the same project and use the Move to Project > Rank menu to reposition them together to the top, bottom, or a specific page.
Why does my template ranking reset after I refresh the page?
If you've sorted templates by clicking a column heading (Name, Status, Type), the display order is temporary. Return to rank order by removing custom sorting or using the Move to Project > Rank menu to establish a permanent ranking that persists across sessions.
