Creating or Generating a New Backlog Item from a Template

This article explains how to create or generate a new Backlog Item from a Template.

Overview​

There are two ways to generate a new story or backlog item from a reusable backlog item template.

When you create a backlog item from a template, the item inherits all the details from the template, including title and associated tasks or tests.

Option 1: From the Sidebar​

  1. Click on the + icon in the sidebar.
  2. Select the type of asset you want to add.
  3. Enter the asset details and click Save.

Option 2: From the Templates Grid​

  1. Click the hamburger menu Hamburger icon > Product > Templates.
  2. In the Backlog Item Details section, select a template, and then click Generate Backlog Item. When the story details page opens, all of the backlog item information will be the same except the story ID.
  3. Edit the new story as necessary. The new story will display in the project's backlog.
