Change Your Grid View
Customize your grid view to display the information you need most efficiently. Control which columns appear, make fields editable, adjust the number of rows, and reset to defaults.
Personal vs system-wide changes: Your grid customizations only affect your personal view. Administrators can set system-wide defaults that apply to all users, but individual users can still override these with personal preferences.
What you can customize
- Add or remove columns to show relevant information
- Make specific columns editable for quick updates
- Control how many rows display per page
- Reset customization back to system defaults
- Apply changes to personal view or system-wide (administrators only)
Add or remove columns
Control which columns appear in your grid to focus on the most relevant information.
How to customize columns
- Click the wrench icon in the grid, then click Customize.
- In the Display column, select checkboxes for columns you want to show.
- Deselect checkboxes for columns you want to hide.
- In the Edit column, select checkboxes for columns you want to make editable.
- Click Save.
Important considerations
- Personal vs system changes: Your changes only affect your view unless you're an administrator applying system defaults
- Tree grid behavior: Column selection affects all levels in tree grids, though some columns may apply to specific levels only
- Administrator privileges: Only system administrators can change grid defaults for all users
Make columns editable
Enable direct editing within the grid to update information quickly without opening individual items.
How to enable editing
- Click the wrench icon in the grid, then click Customize.
- In the Edit column, select checkboxes next to columns you want to make editable.
- Click Save.
Performance and limitations
- Page load impact: Editable columns may slow page loading compared to display-only columns
- Field restrictions: Only certain field types can be made editable (active checkboxes indicate available options)
- Tree view differences: Some cells may be editable at one hierarchy level but not at others
Control rows per page
Adjust how many rows display to balance between visibility and performance.
How to change row count
- Click the wrench icon in the grid, then click Customize.
- Enter your desired number in the Rows Per Page field.
- Choose My Personal Settings or System Defaults from the dropdown.
- Click Save.
Performance considerations
- Loading speed: More rows mean slower page load times
- Editing efficiency: Fewer rows can speed up page refreshes during bulk editing
- Personal vs system: Choose whether changes apply to you only or all users (admin only)
Reset to default settings
Restore your grid customization to the original system defaults.
How to reset
- Click the wrench icon in the grid, then click Customize.
- In the Customize Columns window, click Reset Defaults.
- Your grid returns to the original column configuration.
Reset behavior
- Personal settings: Removes your personal customizations
- System defaults: Returns to administrator-defined defaults
- All customizations: Affects columns, editability, and rows per page settings
Customization scope
Personal settings
- Changes apply only to your user account
- Other users see their own customizations or system defaults
- Can be reset individually without affecting others
System defaults (administrators only)
- Apply changes to default view for all users
- New users see these settings by default
- Existing user customizations override system defaults
- Requires administrator privileges
Troubleshooting
Why don't my column customizations save?
Several factors affect whether customizations persist:
- Scope selection: Ensure you selected My Personal Settings (not System Defaults unless you're an administrator) when saving changes.
- Browser cache: Clear your browser cache and cookies, then reapply your customizations. Browser issues can prevent settings from persisting.
- Session timeout: If your session expired before clicking Save, customizations are lost. Save customizations promptly after making changes.
- Grid-specific settings: Customizations apply to specific grids, not all grids globally. Customize each grid individually (Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, etc.).
Why can't I make certain columns editable?
Not all columns support inline editing:
- Field type restrictions: Only specific field types can be made editable (text fields, dropdowns, checkboxes). System fields and calculated fields cannot be edited inline.
- Disabled checkboxes: If the Edit checkbox is grayed out for a column, that field type doesn't support inline editing. Edit the item detail page instead.
- Permission restrictions: You need write access to the field. Some fields are restricted to administrators or specific roles.
- Workflow state: Items in certain statuses or closed sprints may prevent editing specific fields.
Why is my grid loading slowly after adding editable columns?
Editable columns increase page load time:
- Performance impact: Each editable column adds processing overhead. The more editable columns, the slower the grid loads.
- Reduce editable columns: Make only essential columns editable. Use Display-only for informational columns.
- Lower rows per page: Reduce the Rows Per Page setting to improve load times. Try 25 or 50 rows instead of 100+.
- Use detail pages: For complex editing, open individual item detail pages rather than editing extensively in grids.
Why did my changes disappear after an administrator updated system defaults?
System defaults and personal settings interact:
- Personal settings override: Your personal customizations should override system defaults. If they disappeared, you may have reset to defaults accidentally.
- Reapply customizations: Administrators changing system defaults shouldn't affect existing personal settings. Reapply your customizations if needed.
- Grid migration: If your organization migrated to a new Agility version, customizations may need to be reapplied.
