Late Tasks and its Impact Analysis Dashboard
The Late Task and Its Impact dashboard provides a detailed view of late release tasks and the impact of these delayed tasks within the release and across all dependent releases. The dashboard gives you insights into the current progress of delayed tasks and their associated release tasks, along with the tasks that have a high chance of getting delayed soon. These insights enable you to analyze, set priorities, and take appropriate actions proactively.
As a Release Manager, you can use this dashboard to understand the following business scenarios:
- What all are the late tasks in a release, and by how many days are these tasks late? What is the probability of release being successful?
- What is the progress of all releases that have late tasks, and which is the task type facing repetitive issues?
- What is the cause and impact of a task delay on the current release and all its dependency releases, phases, or tasks?
The filters in the dashboard enable you to drill down further using specific Release Name, Release Folder, Release Owner, Release Tag, Lagging Count of Months, Projected Planned Start and End Date, Release Task Type, and Release Task Tag. The dashboard supports a single level of hierarchy in case of filtering results based on Folders.
Note: The values of KPIs change according to the selected filter, such as Release Folder or Release Owner.
The Late Task and Its Impact dashboard consists of the following pages:
- Late task analysis
- Late gate task and its dependencies
Late task analysis
The Late task analysis dashboard page displays an overall view of direct dependencies of late tasks within a release. This page provides insights on delayed task details, the average number of late days, and the task type with the highest number of late tasks. With these insights, you can identify, analyze and remediate the delay to improve the release progress.
The Late Task Analysis dashboard page consists of the following sections:
KPIs
- % Late release task: Displays the percentage and trend of late tasks over the total number of release tasks.
- % Running late tasks: Displays the percentage and trend of late running tasks among all the late release tasks.
- Avg no of late days: Displays the average number of days behind schedule for release tasks and the trend of late days count. It is calculated based on the projected end date or baseline end date.
- No of late running release tasks: Displays the total number and trend of late running tasks of a release.
- % Successful late tasks: Displays the percentage and trend of successful late tasks over the total number of late tasks.
- Task type with highest late tasks: Displays the task type that has the highest number of late tasks.
You can hover over the displayed trend of a particular KPI to get a specific month's value.
The panel filters in the dashboard enable you to drill down further using specific Release Name, Release Tag, Release Start and End Date, Release Task Type, and Release Task Tag.
Note: The page-level filters have no impact on KPI values and act only on the grids available on the page.
Late task view by task type
This panel provides a detailed view of late release tasks categorized based on the various task types. Information is represented through a heat map illustrating the number of late release tasks, the average number of late days for each task type. You can identify the area that requires immediate attention to mitigate and accelerate the progress of a release.
The task type wedges are color-coded to indicate the percentage of late tasks based on the predefined threshold values such as 0% -35% in Green, 35% - 65% in Amber, and above 65 % represented in Red.
You can select a specific task type to view more details about the associated tasks in subsequent sections.
Late Tasks
This panel offers a bar graph view that represents the count of late tasks associated with a team, release owner, or release task age category based on the Task Type selected in the "Late Task View by Task Type" section. The X-axis represents the number of late release tasks, and you can select the Y-axis magnitude from the drop-down list.
You can hover over the bar graph to get details of the number of late release tasks and the average number of late days.
Late task details
This grid provides detailed information about the late release tasks, that are categorized based on task type selected in the "Late Task View by Task Type" section. The Late Task Details section displays information such as Task Name, Task Type, Release Name, Release Owner, Status, Projected Start and End Date, Planned Start and End Date, Actual Start Date, and Risk Score.
You can also click the Link to the Source System icon against a task name to launch the source system and view more details about the late release tasks.
Late gate task and its dependencies
The Late Gate Task and Its dependencies dashboard page displays detailed information on late gate tasks, the dependent release tasks associated with the gate tasks, and the dependencies of late gate tasks. The dashboard provides you a high-level perception of the impact of late tasks on its dependents, and enables you to distinguish the late tasks that require immediate attention to act promptly. With these facts, you can recognize the impacted gate tasks that cause a delay within a release or across all other releases.
This dashboard page consists of the following sections:
Late gate tasks
This panel exhibits the details of late gate tasks such as Task Name, Release Name, Release Phase Name, and Average Number of Late Days.
You can select a specific gate task name to view more details about the dependents and associated dependencies in subsequent sections.
Dependents of late tasks
This grid shows the data based on the gate task name selection made from the previous panel and displays dependents of release tasks associated with the gate tasks. This panel provides information such as the name of the dependent release task, status of a dependent task, phase of dependent release, release name of dependent, and assigned owner of the dependent release.
Dependencies of late tasks
This grid shows the information of dependency releases that have dependent gate tasks. You can view the following details:
- Release Dependency Type
- Dependency Release Name
- Dependency Release Task Name
- Dependency Release Phase Name
- Dependency Release Owner
- Dependency Release Risk
- Dependency Release Status
- Dependency Release Task Description
- Dependency Release Task Status
- Dependency Release Task Flag Status
- Time to Closure (Hours)
- Time to Start (Hours)
