Format Panel for Geospatial Service Visualizations

You can format a geospatial service visualization to determine whether markers on the map are clustered together in the visualization, or change the background map theme, such a street map or satellite map.

Access

  1. Open an existing dossier that contains the geospatial service visualization you want to format.
  2. In the left toolbar, click Format .

Fields

Select the area of the visualization you want to format from the first drop-down.

Formatting on Layer

Layers: Select the layer you want to format from the second drop-down list. Each layer can contain different attributes and metrics and can be styled and formatted independently of the others.

Type: Select whether to display a map with markers, bubbles, or areas.

Shape: If you select Marker in Type, choose one of the following map marker shapes: Circle, Pins, Squares, Diamonds, or Images.

Boundaries: If you select Area in Type, choose the level you want to use for displaying boundaries on your map. Different levels are used to represent boundaries for states, cities, counties, postal codes, etc.

Clustering

Enable Clustering: Select this checkbox to allow map markers to be clustered together when a large number of map markers appears in the same map area. Each cluster of markers appears as a separate bubble or image marker. Double-click a cluster to zoom in and display the individual map markers in the cluster.

Slider: Use the slider to specify the zoom level for clustering, from World to Street level.

Cluster radius: Enter the pixel radius to use when clustering.

Shape Formatting

If your visualization contains an attribute in the Color By area of the Editor panel, select the attribute element that corresponds map shape you want to format from the first drop-down. Select All to format all shapes. Select the fill color and opacity for the map shape. The higher the percentage, the more opaque the map shape.

Select color ranges: If you are using thresholds, click to modify the threshold colors.

Fill: Select the fill color and opacity for map shapes. The higher the percentage, the more opaque the map shape. This option is only available for marker, bubble, and area maps.

Border: Select the border style and color of map shapes. This option is only available for bubble and area maps.

Max size: If you select Bubble in Type, select Automatic to allow Digital.ai Intelligence Applications to automatically determine the maximum size of the bubbles. Select Manual to enter a maximum bubble size as a ration between 0.01 - 1.0.

Min size: This field appears when there is a metric in the Size By area of the Editor panel and you select Bubble in Type. Select Proportional to allow Digital.ai Intelligence Applications to determine the minimum bubble size in proportion to the maximum bubble size. Select Full Range to make the smallest marker size fixed, independent of its value. Select Adjusted Range to enter a size for the smallest marker.

Data Labels

Text: Select this option to display data labels using the metric values associated with each location or marker. This option is only available if there is an attribute in the Break By area of the Editor panel.

Values: Select this option to display data labels using the metric values associated with each location or marker.

None (default): Select this option to hide data labels.

Hide Overlapping Labels: Select this checkbox to hide labels that overlap each other.

Font: Select font formatting options for the data labels.

Legend

Show Legend: Select this checkbox to display a legend on the map. This option appears if you are using thresholds to define colors.

Map Options

The Map options contain general formatting options for the map's display, such as the display theme, map type, clustering, and so on. The following options are available:

Map Style: Select the display theme to use when showing the map (that is, Basic, Satellite, etc.).

Show map labels: Select to display map labels.

Bring map labels to front: Select to display map labels on top of layers.

Language: Select the language for map labels. Select Local to view the local language for a country. For example, map labels within the country of Japan appear in Japanese, even if your machine is set to English. You can also choose your machine language + Local to view map labels in both languages.

Zoom behavior: Determine whether to refit the map area when you select map locations. Select Dynamic to zoom in and refit the contents of the visualization to best display the selected locations on the map. Select Static to keep the current level of magnification when you select locations on the map.

Remember zoom level: This option appears when you select Static in Zoom behavior. Select this checkbox to maintain the current level of magnification.

Zoom through layers: Select this checkbox to define the zoom level for each layer using the sliders, ranging from World to Street. Right-click a slider thumb and select whether to exclude or include layers. Hover over a thumb to view the zoom level. Adjust the default zoom level of the map using the slide ruler. The legend updates accordingly.

Note: Your map has three layers. The first, bottom layer, contains map markers for cities throughout the world. The second layer contains areas for states or municipalities within a country. The third, top layer, contains areas for countries. You can zoom in past country areas, to view only state areas, and then finally view only cities with map markers.

Geo unit: Select a geographical unit of kilometers or miles.

More Options: Click to define additional formatting options, such as how to display the attribute form names and how null and zero metric values are hidden.

Title and Container

The following options are available to format the title, background, and borders in a visualization:

Title

Show titlebar: Select the checkbox to display the visualization's title.

Font: Select font formatting options.

Container

Fill Color: Select the background color of the visualization from the palette.

Outer Border: Select the style and color of the visualization's borders from the drop-down lists.
