Importing hierarchical attributes

To use hierarchy reporting, you must import a cube with hierarchical attributes. Each hierarchical attribute represents an entire hierarchy and all its levels. When importing data, the option to import a hierarchy as a hierarchical attribute is visible if you select MDX connections against the supported database. You can import a standalone cube or a local cube within a dossier that has hierarchical attributes.

  1. Open a new or existing dossier.
  2. Choose Add Data > New Data to import data. The Data Sources dialog opens.
  3. Click OLAP. The Import from Cubes dialog opens.
  4. In the MDX Connections pane on the left, select the name of the data source connection that contains the data to import. The cube catalog appears in the Browse Catalog pane.
  5. Click the expansion arrow to the left of the cube catalog to view the corresponding cubes.
  6. Drag a cube from the Browse Catalog pane, to the right pane, to add it to the import.
  7. Select Import hierarchy as hierarchical attribute.
  8. Click Finish.

Use the VLDB property for MDX cell formatting to modify cell formatting for hierarchical attributes. See the Opening the VLDB Properties Editor and MDX Cell Formatting topics in the System Administration Guide for more information.
