Displaying a reference line in a graph visualization
A reference line, also referred to as a base line, is a user-defined vertical or horizontal line in the graph. Use reference lines to compare, reference, or measure against the data values displayed in the graph.
In a graph visualization that displays regional revenue values, you can define a reference line for your target revenue, to see at a glance how each region compares to the target.
You can display one or more reference lines in a graph visualization, using different line types. Reference lines are available if the X or Y axis contains a metric. Reference lines are not available for stacked graphs.
-
Click on the graph visualization you want to modify.
-
Right-click the numeric axis to use as a basis for the reference line. If the axis contains more than one metric, choose the metric name. Then, select Add Reference Line and the location of the reference line.
Choose Maximum to display the reference line at the level of the highest data point in the graph.
or
Choose Minimum to display the reference line at the level of the lowest data point in the graph.
or
Choose Average to display the reference line at the average value of all data points in the graph.
or
Choose Median to display the reference line at the median value of all data points in the graph.
or
Choose First to display the reference line at the first data point plotted in the graph.
or
Choose Last to display the reference line at the height of the last data point plotted in the graph.
or
Choose Constant to display a reference line at a custom value. Enter the value and click OK.
The reference line appears in the graph. If necessary, you can display additional reference lines using the options mentioned above.
-
To format a reference line, right-click it and choose Format. A pop-up menu displays the appropriate formatting options. In addition, the Format panel automatically updates the first drop-down list to the Reference Lines option and the corresponding format options appear.
-
Select the appropriate options to format the reference line.
