Creating a derived metric on a Grid using a shortcut

You can create a simple derived metric and add it immediately to a grid visualization, using a menu shortcut.

Note: Shortcut metrics are only available in grid visualizations.

To Create a Derived Metric Using a Shortcut

  1. Open a dossier that contains a grid visualization.
  2. You can create a derived attribute and immediately add it to a grid visualization, as well as the Datasets panel. Select the grid visualization you want to add the derived metric to. In the Editor panel, right-click the metric to use to create the derived metric and choose Shortcut Metric.
  3. Select the function you want to use to define the derived metric and click OK.

For instance, if you are creating a Running Total, select the function to use for the calculation, such as Sum to calculate a running sum or Average for a running average. Then, select how to break the running total. Breaking the running total restarts the total. You can select an attribute and the total is restarted for each element in the attribute.
