Creating a Geospatial Service Visualization with Markers

You can create a geospatial service visualization with image or bubble markers.

  1. Create a blank dossier or open an existing one.

  2. Click Insert Visualization to add a new, blank visualization to the dossier.

  3. In the Visualization Gallery, click Geospatial Services.

  4. Drag objects from the Datasets panel to the Editor panel to add the corresponding data to the visualization. You can also drag objects from the Datasets panel directly onto the visualization.

To provide locations using one attribute, place the attribute with location information in the Geo Attribute area. Digital.ai Intelligence Applications automatically detects the latitude and longitude attribute forms and displays their names in the Latitude and Longitude areas.

    or

To provide locations using separate latitude and longitude attributes, place an attribute that contains the latitude information in the Latitude area. Place the attribute that contains the longitude information in the Longitude area.

  5. When you add geo attributes, a corresponding tooltip is added to the Tooltip area. Tooltips display corresponding attributes or metrics when you hover over a map marker. To add more tooltips, place attributes and metrics in the Tooltip area of the Editor panel.

  6. To color map areas based on metric values or attribute elements, place one metric or attribute in the Color By area.

  7. If you place a metric or attribute in the Color By area, you can choose to show or hide the map legend. The legend shows the relationship between the color of each marker and the metric value or attribute element for that location. Click Show Legend in the visualization toolbar to display the legend.

  8. If you place a metric in the Color By area, you can define a metric threshold for coloring the map areas. Right-click the metric and choose Thresholds.

  9. You can add multiple layers to a map. To add a layer, click Add in the Layers area.

  10. Open the Format panel.

  11. Select Formatting on layer from the first drop-down list.

  12. If your map contains multiple layers, select the layer you want to format in the second drop-down list.

  13. In the Type drop-down list, select Marker to apply one of several types of images or Bubble to apply bubble markers.

  14. If you selected Marker, select the marker shape in Shape.

  15. Select Enable Clustering to cluster markers together in a circle. When you have a large number of markers in the same area, you can cluster them together.

  16. Enter the radius size, in pixels, that you want to use for clustering in Cluster radius.

  17. Select Map Options from the first drop-down list.

  18. In the Map Style drop-down list, select the display theme to apply to the map.

  19. If your map has multiple layers, select Zoom through layers to define the zoom levels for showing or hiding maps.

  20. If you select Zoom through layers, adjust the zoom level for each layer using the sliders, ranging from World to Street view. Right-click a slider thumb and select whether to include or exclude layers. Hover over a thumb to view the zoom level. Adjust the default zoom level of the map using the slide ruler.

Tip: Your map has three layers. The first, bottom layer, contains map markers for cities throughout the world. The second layer contains areas for states or municipalities within a country. The third, top layer, contains areas for countries. You can zoom in past country areas, to view only state areas, and then finally view only cities with map markers.

  21. Open the Editor panel.

  22. If you selected bubble markers on the Format panel, place one metric in the Size By area to size bubble markers based on the value of a metric. Bubbles with large metric values appear larger in size. Bubbles with small metric values appear smaller in size.

  23. If you selected Enable Clustering on the Format panel, the number shown in the center of each circle indicates the number of items in the cluster.

  24. Hover the over the cluster to display a tooltip for all items in the cluster.

  25. Double-click on a cluster or zoom in to break the cluster into smaller clusters or individual markers.

  26. Select which attribute forms appear in the visualization.

  27. You can add multiple layers to a map. To add a layer, click Add in the Layers area.

  28. Click Save.
