Send Notifications to Users

You can send a notification message to native iOS and Android App Catalog users to advertise or alert them to application changes, request an action, or share any information that will help optimize the App Catalog experience. There are two types of notifications:

  • Group: A group notification goes to all members of a group who have a native App Catalog (iOS or Android) installed on their devices. Group notifications can only be sent by users with the Administrator or User Manager role.

  • Application: An application notification goes to all native App Catalog (iOS or Android) users who have installed the app on their devices. Application notifications can only be sent by users with the Administrator role.

Users do not need to be logged in to the App Catalog to receive a notification message, although they must have previously logged in to the App Catalog at least once.

note

Users running the web App Catalog can't receive notifications.

VAR::COMPANYNAME App Management sends notification messages as _push notifications.

The users' experience will differ depending on their device and operating system. The notification may appear as a banner or pop-up alert when a user is actively on their device, or may appear together with other notifications in a notification center or on the lock screen. Users typically also have the ability to configure the behavior of push notifications for individual apps, or disable notifications entirely.

When the device receives a notification, the user can tap it to open the App Catalog.

When a user views a notification message outside of the App Catalog (in a banner, alert, etc.), the message displays the name of the App Catalog in the header to indicate where it came from. For application notifications, the message is also prefaced by the name of the specific app to provide context for the message.

When a user logs into the App Catalog to view the complete message, group notifications display a "Group Notification" header and application notifications display an "Application Notification" header and preface the message with the name of the app.
