Manage Policy Settings
The Policies tab on the Settings page allows you to manage the following options:
No-Registration Policies
Digital.ai App Management supports a universal app distribution model that allows you to securely deploy and manage mobile apps through a variety of distribution methods. With some of these distribution methods, such as via the App Catalog, Digital.ai App Management knows that the user is a registered, authenticated Digital.ai App Management user. With other methods, such as sending a Direct Install URL, mobile device users can download and install apps even if they are not registered with Digital.ai App Management and do not have the App Catalog installed.
If you want to apply policies to any apps that you may distribute to unregistered users, you must first enable "No-Registration Policies" for your organization.
When "No-Registration Policies" are enabled for your organization and you open the Policies tab for an application, you will see the No-Registration Policies section at the top of the page, where you can choose to turn it on or off. If you turn it on, the list of policies will include only those policies that work with unregistered users.
Some policies are not yet supported with unregistered users, and a few will never be supported because they do not make sense in that context. For example, the purpose of the Enterprise SSO policy is to secure an app at launch time by prompting the user to authenticate using the same authentication method used when logging in to the App Catalog; therefore, it doesn't make sense to apply the Enterprise SSO policy to an unregistered user.
The following policies are supported with unregistered users:
- App Usage
- Collect Crash Reports
- Self Updating App
- App Expiration
- Jailbreak/Root Protection
To enable no-registration policies for your organization
- On the Admin Portal navigation bar, click Settings.
- Click Policies.
- Under No-Registration Policies, select the Enable no-registration check box.
- Click Save.
Once enabled, the No-Registration Policies setting can only be disabled by Customer Support.
Policy Evaluation Frequency
When an app has policies applied, Digital.ai App Management evaluates the policies before allowing the user to use the app. Depending on the policies and the results of the evaluation, the user may be blocked from using the app or the user may need to perform an action before continuing. For example, when a user opens an app with the Self Updating App policy applied, Digital.ai App Management checks for a new version and prompts the user to install it when one is available.
Digital.ai App Management evaluates most application's policies whenever the user opens the app, brings it to the foreground, or returns to it from a locked screen. (With some policies, Digital.ai App Management does not count multiple launches within a minute. These exceptions are described in the policy descriptions in Available Policies.) Evaluation speed can be influenced by the device's network connection speed. Depending on the types of policies you have applied, you may wish to evaluate policies less frequently to improve the user's experience with the application. To do this, you can configure the Policy Evaluation Frequency setting. The Policy Evaluation Frequency setting determines the evaluation frequency when a user brings an app to the foreground or returns to it from a locked screen. When a user force closes an app and relaunches it, Digital.ai App Management evaluates policies regardless of the frequency setting.
The frequency setting applies to Digital.ai App Management’s base policies only (App Usage, Enterprise SSO, Collect Crash Reports, Self Updating App, Data Wipe, Data Protection Enforcement, Jailbreak/Root Protection, App Expiration, Open Web Page, App Password, and Runtime Integrity Check); it does not apply to any Blue Cedar Networks MAP application policies. Regardless of the frequency setting, MAP policies will be evaluated whenever the app is opened or brought to the foreground.
You can change the frequency setting from Always (the default) to:
-
Every hour
-
Every 2 hours
-
Every 6 hours
-
Every 12 hours
-
Once a day
Because this setting modifies the evaluation frequency for all apps within your organization that have base policies applied to them, be sure to consider the types of policies you are using before you change the setting.
Always is the frequency the system has been using since before the Policy Evaluation Frequency feature was implemented; if you do not change the default setting, the system will continue to evaluate policies with the same frequency it has been using.
To set the evaluation frequency for policies
- On the Admin Portal navigation bar, click Settings.
- Click Policies.
- Under Policy Evaluation Frequency, select an option from the list.
- Click Save.
