Getting Started for Engineering Managers
Engineering managers use Digital.ai Release to monitor delivery health, track release status across teams and portfolios, and measure software delivery performance. This guide covers the dashboards, reports, and metrics available for this role and explains what each one measures.
This guide assumes that Digital.ai Release is already installed and that your Release Administrator has granted you the View Reports global permission. If you cannot access a dashboard or report described here, contact your Release Administrator. See Getting Started for Release Administrators.
Who This Guide Is For
This guide is for users who:
- Monitor delivery health and release status across teams and portfolios.
- Need visibility into release pipeline bottlenecks, late tasks, and risk.
- Consume dashboards and reports to communicate delivery status to stakeholders.
- Do not create or run releases day-to-day.
If you also manage or run releases directly, see Getting Started for Release Managers.
Tracking Release Status
The following dashboard and report are scoped to individual releases.
Release Dashboard
Each running release has its own dashboard that displays planning information and release status through configurable tiles. For more information, see Release Dashboard.
Release Audit Report
The Release Audit Report provides a timestamped record of every action taken during a release: task completions, comments, failures, skips, and state changes. Use it for compliance reviews and post-release retrospectives.
To generate an audit report for a specific release, open the release, click Audit Report in the left navigation, and select the date range and export format. See Release Audit Report and Generate the Release Audit Report.
Portfolio Visibility
The following dashboards and views give a cross-release view of delivery status across your portfolio.
Custom Dashboards
Custom dashboards let you assemble tiles that show specific metrics and release data relevant to your team or portfolio. Each tile is independently configurable and can filter by folder, tag, time period, or release status. Access them from Reports > Dashboards.
Available tile types include release counts, task completion rates, phase duration charts, and release timeline views. For the full list and setup instructions, see Dashboard Tiles and Configure Custom Dashboards.
Pre-built dashboard templates are available as a starting point. See Dashboard Templates. For tracking compliance and security scan results across releases, use the Code Compliance and Security Dashboard template.
Reports Dashboard
The Reports Dashboard gives an aggregated view of release activity: total releases started and completed, average release duration, and task completion rates across a selected time period. See Reports Dashboard.
Calendar View
The Calendar view shows all planned and running releases on a timeline by day, week, or month. Use it to identify scheduling conflicts or clusters of simultaneous deployments.
To open the Calendar view, click Calendar in the sidebar. See Calendar View.
Risk Overview
Release calculates a risk level for each active release based on factors such as failed tasks, flagged tasks, and releases approaching their due dates. Use the Risk Awareness view to identify releases that need attention before they miss their targets.
To access it, go to Releases and switch to the Risk Awareness view. See Risk Awareness.
