SeeTestAutomation- Setting up audio hardware

In order to use the audio feature, you are required to set up an environment which has several hardware dependencies 

After you complete the hardware prerequisites described below, go to this page to start working with audio.

Hardware Components:

  1. Audio cable
  2. SeeTestAutomation- Setting up audio hardware#USB audio interface  (only for Windows machines)
  3. 6.35mm female to 3.5mm male adapter
  4. SeeTestAutomation- Setting up audio hardware#3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable

1. The audio cable:

We have certified a specific cable and vendor (Griffin) which ensures top quality and consistent behavior, other vendors could be verified by demand.

2. The USB audio interface:

We have certified a specific vendor (Audio-Tech), who provided the best results in terms of audio quality, other vendors could be verified by demand.

3.  6.35mm female to 3.5mm male adapter

The is a simple and generic adaptor, there are no special requirements for it. (no vendor was certified, all displayed similar results)

4. 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable

The is a simple and generic cable, there are no special requirements for it. (no vendor was certified, all displayed similar results)

Setup

The following steps will describe how to connect the device to the interface as presented in the following illustration.

  1. Connect the audio cable to the device.

  2. Connect the 6.35mm to 3.5mm  adaptor to the "device input" end of the audio cable.

  3. When connecting device to a Windows machine:

    1. Connect the 6.35mm to 3.5mm  adaptor to the "interface output" (from the interface is output to the device input).

    2. Connect the 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to the "interface input" and to the "device output".

    3. Connect the USB interface to the USB port of the computer.

  4. When connecting device to a Mac machine:

    1. Connect the 6.35mm to 3.5mm  adaptor to the "Headphone" output of the Mac machine.

    2. Connect the 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to the "Audio in" and to the "device output".

  5. Now configure the device in SeeTest Automation as described by the instructions here

Setup audio for iOS devices with no audio jack built-in

For iOS devices with no built-in audio jack ( i.e. iPhoneX), another hardware component is needed:

  1. iphone lightning dock.
  2. Setup the iOS device on top of the lightning dock and connect to USB cable to the USB port of the computer.
  3. Continue with the setup process, after connecting the audio cable o the dock's headphone output.
