Why can't I edit a backlog item?

There are a number of reasons that you may not be able to edit a backlog item. Check to see if any of the following conditions may be the cause:

Are all backlog items in that project read-only or only some of them?Verify your project role grants access to the project in which the backlog item sits (look at the *story's project*, which may be different from the project you currently have selected). See what project the backlog item is in. Then, pull up your member details page and see your project role for that project.
Is the backlog item closed?If Yes, you can reopen it, and then edit the backlog item as needed.
Is the backlog item in a closed sprint or iteration or project?If Yes, you can reopen the sprint or project, and then edit as needed.
