Backlog Item Predictability Dashboard Panel

This article explains how to use Backlog Item Predictability Dashboard Panel in Agility.

Overview

The Analytics Backlog Item Predictability dashboard panel indicates historical trends of Backlog Throughput variation. The more consistent your Backlog Throughput values are month-over-month, the higher the Predictability score.

  1. Click the hamburger menu Hamburger iconAnalytics.
  2. Click on the Enterprise tab.
  3. If the panel is not visible, click the Add Panel button.
  4. In the Add Panels window, click the Add button for the Backlog Item Predictability panel and click Done. The panel should display on the dashboard.

Measures

This panel measures the coefficient of the root mean squared variation of the Backlog Throughput values month-over-month or quarter-over-quarter for 3 month and 6 month intervals.

The predictability score is a 3 month running average or a 6 month running average, depending on the line.

Using 3 month as an example:

The data point in November, considered Sept, Oct, and Nov.

The data point in December, considered Oct, Nov, and Dec.

The data point in January, considered Nov, Dec. and Jan.

The data being considered is the Backlog Item Throughput value for those 3 months completed. This is the number of Completed, or Closed, backlog items in the given period. It does not take any WIP into account, and it does not consider stories that were "worked" but not completed or closed.

Configuring the Panel

  1. Click the gear icon Analytics Gear Icon at the top-right corner and click Edit.
  2. Choose from the panel parameters below.

Parameters for this panel may differ depending on the location of the dashboard.
