Manage Issues
Issues track impediments that slow down or block progress through a story, defect, portfolio item, or test set. Issue management includes creating, editing, organizing, and resolving impediments quickly.
Who Manages Issues
- Team Members: Create issues when encountering impediments, update issue status as resolution progresses.
- Scrum Masters: Manage issue lifecycle (create, edit, close, delete), facilitate resolution, and track impediments across teams.
- Product Owners: Review and prioritize issues affecting backlog items, approve resolution approaches.
- Project Managers: Oversee issue resolution across multiple projects, analyze impediment trends.
Permission Requirement
To view issues, you must have Read access to the Product Planning or Team Planning area. To create, edit, copy, or move issues, you must have Edit access. To close issues, you must have Edit access and select a resolution. To delete issues, you must have Edit or Admin permissions. Deleted issues are permanently removed from the database.
Access Issues
You can access the Issues page from the following locations within Digital.ai Agility:
- Product > Input > Issues
- Team > Sprint Planning > Issues
- Team > Sprint Tracking > Issues
Create Issue
There are several ways to add an issue to your project backlog. Choose the method that works best for you.
Option 1: Add Issue in Grid (Inline)
- Click the hamburger menu
and choose one of the following:
- Product > Input > Issues
- Team > Sprint Planning > Issues
- Team > Sprint Tracking > Issues
- Click Add Issue. The Issue window opens with the Project field populated.
- Enter the required information, and then click Save. The new issue will be assigned a system-generated ID beginning with "I" and added to the bottom of the grid.
Option 2: Add Issue Directly
- Click the plus icon on the header.
- Select the type of asset you want to add.
- Enter the asset details and click Save.
Edit Issue
You can edit issue details using three different methods depending on your needs.
Option 1: Quick Inline Edits (Recommended)
To quickly update multiple issues at once, inline edits are the best option. This allows you to make changes to multiple fields on multiple issues all at once.
Setting Up Your Grid (First Time Only)
To make working in the grid easier, add the columns or fields you use most often and remove those you don't need. This optional step will save you time in the long run, especially if you are updating multiple items at once.
- Click the hamburger menu
and choose one of the following:
- Product > Input > Issues
- Team > Sprint Planning > Issues
- Team > Sprint Tracking > Issues
- Double-click on column headers to enable editable columns.
- Make the appropriate changes (your changes are highlighted in yellow) and click Save.
Option 2: Edit Individual Issues in Grid
- Click the hamburger menu
and choose one of the following:
- Product > Input > Issues
- Team > Sprint Planning > Issues
- Team > Sprint Tracking > Issues
- Click the Edit button to the right of the issue.
Option 3: Edit in Issue Details Page
On the Issue Details page, click the Pencil icon next to the field you want to change. Make the appropriate changes and press Enter or Return on your keyboard.
Close Issue
Closing an issue indicates that all work is complete so no further planning or tracking activities can take place against the item.
To close an issue:
- Click the hamburger menu
and choose one of the following:
- Product > Input > Issues
- Team > Sprint Planning > Issues
- Team > Sprint Tracking > Issues
- Select the issue you want to close and click Edit > Close.
- In the Issue window, select a resolution and enter additional details (optional), and click Close Issue. The system assigns the issue a closed status and removes it from the grid. The issue shows in subsequent searches when you search on closed items.
Delete Issue
You can delete issues that are no longer needed. Deleted issues are permanently removed from the database.
To delete an issue:
- Click the hamburger menu
and choose one of the following:
- Product > Input > Issues
- Team > Sprint Planning > Issues
- Team > Sprint Tracking > Issues
- Select the issue you want to delete, click the arrow next to the Edit button, and click Delete.
- In the Issue window, click Delete. The issue will be removed from the grid and deleted from the database.
Copy Issue
You can make a copy of an existing issue. All of the original issue's attributes, notes, and links are copied to the new issue.
To copy an issue:
- Click the hamburger menu
and choose one of the following:
- Product > Input > Issues
- Team > Sprint Planning > Issues
- Team > Sprint Tracking > Issues
- Locate the issue you want to copy and click Copy from the Edit drop-down list. The new issue will display in the grid above the original and a new ID will be assigned.
Move Issue to Project
To move an issue to a new project, simply edit the Project field on an issue.
To move an issue:
- Click the hamburger menu
and choose one of the following:
- Product > Input > Issues
- Team > Sprint Planning > Issues
- Team > Sprint Tracking > Issues
- Select the issues you want to move, and then click Move to Project.
- Choose the destination project and click Move.
Troubleshooting
Why can't I create a new issue in the grid?
You must have Edit access to the Product Planning or Team Planning area. Verify your permissions with your administrator. Ensure you've selected an appropriate project in the Project Navigator; issues cannot be created when "All Projects" is selected.
Why don't my inline edits save when I update multiple issues?
Double-click on column headers to enable editable columns first. After making changes (highlighted in yellow), click Save to commit changes. If you navigate away before saving, changes will be lost. Some fields may require specific values or formats.
Why can't I close an issue?
You must have Edit access to close issues. A resolution must be selected when closing an issue; verify that resolution values are configured in your system. If the issue is already closed, you won't see the Close option.
Why did deleting an issue fail?
Issues that are actively blocking work items may be protected from deletion. Remove blocking relationships first by editing affected work items. Verify you have Edit or Admin permissions to delete issues. Consider closing the issue instead to preserve impediment history.
